Rashaad Jackson has been hired as defensive line coach with Greer High School. Jackson is the fourth coach on the staff who have graduated Clemson University.
He replaces Bob Massullo who opted to spend more time coaching the Greer baseball team. Jackson has signed a teaching contract with Greer HS in special education.
Jackson is the fourth Greer coach with Clemson ties. Head Coach Will Young, Colby Peeler and Jay Abercrombie also graduated Clemson.
Jackson, 28, graduated Union High School and played in the 2006 Shrine Bowl. He played defensive tackle at Clemson University where he was known as a vocal leader. Jackson was listed at 6-foot-2, 298 pounds in college.
“Coaching is a lot of communication,” Jackson said. “What you say to one kid you may not say to another. You have to get a feel for your kids and understand their background.”
Jackson said he sets lofty goals. “My expectations are high. I look for the players to get better every day,” he said.
Academics fits in the total athlete package, said Jackson. “That’s the first thing I want to know.”
Jackson’s hire completes the Greer coaching staff. Not on the staff is a strength coach and Greer’s full-time trainer will be on maternity leave this summer. No replacement has been announced.
