Greer Today
If it’s Thanksgiving two things you can count on – availability of turkeys and Greer restauranteur Jason Clark’s step-by-step guide to carving the turkey.
There are plenty of plump turkeys available for Thanksgiving but the price may be higher – maybe as high as 24% compared to last year.
The American Farm Bureau reports, due to a worker shortage, higher transportation costs, supply-chain disruptions and other reasons that a 16-pound turkey will cost about $23.99, up 24% from last year. The average price of an 8 pound to 16 pound frozen turkey in 2020 was $1.13 per pound, according to the USDA data. For 2021, the average price is $1.36 per pound.
Once the turkey is prepared, Clark, owner of The Strip Club 104 restaurant at 104 East Poinsett Street will illustrate a step-by-step primer on carving and plating a turkey for a beautiful centerpiece at the dinner table.
Clark tosses in his dish his mother favored with the leftovers – turkey gumbo.
Happy Thanksgiving!
