Ronald Knorr, from Greer, assistant professor at Mercer University’s Tift College of Education, is the recipient of the Teacher of Honor Award from Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), International Honor Society in Education.

After a career as a language arts and social studies teacher, Knorr received his doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Clemson University in 2010. That year, he joined the faculty at Mercer, where he has been responsible for developing curriculum and teaching and advising undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students at various campuses.

“Dr. Ron Knorr is a distinguished educator who has shaped the lives of future and current educators,” said Sarah Johnson, teacher at Eagles Landing High School in McDonough, Ga. “I speak from personal experience in saying that not only did Dr. Knorr encourage me, he pushed me to achieve excellence, and he has always been a positive influence in my quest of being an educator. In addition to being an active part of my undergraduate experience, Dr. Knorr has served as a mentor to me long after I’ve graduated.”

Outside of the university setting, Knorr has worked in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum of African American History and Culture, among other organizations, on projects to document Rosenwald Schools, a series of schools built for the education of African Americans in the early 20th century.
