Two iconic restaurants in Greer have announced name and ownership changes but will keep their menus intact.

Greer Station Diner, becomes effective Friday, and will continue under Scott and Maria Marsh, owner-operators of Greer Station Café. It’s the third name change, formerly Southern Thymes Café, within a year at the restaurant at 219 Trade Street.

Lake View Steak House, 3100 N. Highway 14, will re-open May 7, under former owners Wendy and James Mitchell. The restaurant closed earlier this month when the former operator could not meet obligations on the owner-lease agreement with the Mitchells.

The Marshes and Mitchells are friends and will use each other’s expertise in continuing the same menu offerings traditionally featured at both restaurants. Mitchell upfit the Greer Station Café kitchen and the restaurant’s dining area before re-opening last December.

“We want to emphasize everything here (Greer Station Diner) will be exactly the same and with daily specials,” Maria Marsh said.

Marsh said the restaurant hours, 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. daily except closed on Wednesday, will remain.

The Marshes owned a grill in North Carolina and moved to the upstate when their son enrolled at Furman. They opened a new business and later became interested in the downtown Greer restaurant when it became available.

Wendy Mitchell said she is excited returning to operate the Lake View Steak House. “I have hired a completely new staff and together we’ve got seventy years in the food service business. That will be a big change for our customers, the quality of service.”

Mitchell said, “We’re going to keep the menu the same and offer steaks and other popular features.”

Hours will continue 4 – 9 p.m.  Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Hours and additional days will be added later.

The restaurant is a landmark on Highway 14 with its two-story dining and screened room overlooking the freshwater stream. Often there are people fishing from the shore under the shade trees.
