Tiquan Lyles, a Greer High School defensive lineman, signed Wednesday to play football at Newberry College.
Lyles was a last-minute offer from Newberry, according to Greer Head Football Coach Will Young. “It was an unusual situation,” said Young. “Tiquan was signing with Newberry while we were in another room with the other players’ (Cole Henderson, Jackson Tipton, Tyler Wright) making their announcement.”
Lyles, 6-foot-2, 275-pounds, played defensive line and was used in as an H back. “He’s a great looking kid and has potential out of the roof,” Young said.
Lyles had 36 individual tackles and 32 assists, two knockdowns, four hurries, six tackles for loss, four sacks, one caused fumble and defensive turnover.
“He’s an honor student and he will be a good student,” Young said. “Bottom line, he’s got to play better, be a little more aggressive and a little more proactive. He’s got all the tools and he can do it.”
Lyles was among four Greer football players signing Wednesday. Cole Henderson signed with Lenoir-Rhyne University and Jackson Tipton and Tyler Wright signed with Union College in Barbourville, Ky.
