A memorial service is scheduled Saturday for Anthony Richard Cabeza, 58, of Greer who died on Memorial Day in a crash of a small plane in middle Georgia.
Cabeza and Julius Gilreath, 71, of Greenville, were flying in a single-engine Piper PA-32 aircraft when it went down in a swampy field, Georgia authorities said. Cabeza was a corporate pilot and Gilreath a developer and builder, mostly of medical offices and facilities.
Memorial services and visition for Cabeza is Saturday at Greenville Jet Center.
Cabeza is survived by his wife of 21 years Pandora Martin Cabeza and two daughters, Jo Dee Bonnett of Illesheim, Germany and Adrienne Coker of Savannah, Georgia; a brother, John Grady Cabeza, Sr. (Donna) of Denver, Colorado; a sister, Toni Cabeza Long (Craig) of Lantana, Florida; and five grandchildren.
A Georgia newspaper reported that federal transportation officials said the pilot had reported oil pressure problems. A FAA spokesperson said the plane crashed about a mile northeast of Robins Air Force Base at 6:05 p.m.
The flight departed with two people on board from Apalachicola Municipal Airport in Apalachicola, Fla., and was headed for the Greenville Downtown Airport.
