February was the fourth straight month of double-digit percentage gains in passenger activity. During the month, the airport served 15.8% more passengers (168,242) compared to February 2018 (145,289).
“It is gratifying to see airlines continue to invest in the Upstate and GSP,” said Dave Edwards, GSP’s president and CEO. “By placing additional flights and larger aircraft on existing routes, airlines are providing more options to area travelers and more reasons to choose GSP International Airport.”
Overall, airlines operating from GSP added 21.7% more seats in February 2019 versus February 2018. United Airlines led all carriers with an increase of 42.7% over the same period last year.
This increase reflects additional nonstop flights to both Washington (Dulles International Airport) and Chicago (O’Hare International Airport) by the airline and the introduction of larger 76-seat aircraft on routes to Washington and Houston. United will continue to grow at GSP with the addition of new daily nonstop service to Denver beginning June 7.
Cargo also continued its rise in February with volume increasing 5.3% (8.3 million pounds) when compared to February 2018 (7.9 million pounds).
