Clemson police say Howard's Rock was damaged on the night of June 2 when its protective casing was destroyed and a portion of the rock was chipped away.
BlueRidgeNow.com reported that Michael Rogers, 46, told the board Tuesday he will not resign after being charged with felony counts of obstructing justice and conspiracy.
The charges were filed after Rogers’ son, Micah Rogers, was accused of damaging Howard’s Rock June 2, according to the report.
Board chairwoman Tawny McCoy said the board has no authority to remove a member accused of a crime.

Micah Rogers is charged with malicious injury to personal property, trespassing; and illegal entry.
Rogers issued a written statement that read: “My determination to find the truth has resulted in me being charged with a crime that I absolutely did not commit. Unfortunately my role in trying to find the truth has led to these allegations.”

Micah Rogers was arrested and charged June 28 with malicious injury to personal property valued at more than $2,000 but less than $10,000; trespassing, and unlawful entry into enclosed spaces.
