At first there was a gasp.
Then heads turned toward Noah Hannon to the left of the stands at the Fairview Baptist Church Gymnasium Thursday night.
A football helmet and a gold Yellow Jackets jersey, No. 60, which is Hannon’s playing number, was donated for the Big Thursday's live auction.
Hannon was asked if he knew why his jersey was being auctioned. “I have no idea,” Hannon said, as his eyes got bigger, watching and listening to the bidding.
Hannon is a third-generation South Carolina Shrine Bowl selection and a finalist for Mr. Football in the state. He has committed to play for Appalachian State.
Before the live auction began Hannon, senior class president, was introduced for the selection of Greer Community Ministries as the non-profit recipient for Greer’s Spirit Week. The Senior Class President at Greer HS, helped organize the fundraising effort that collected $20,155.
The winning bid Thursday night was $250 for the helmet and Hannon’s jersey.
Greer plays a first-round Class AAAA state playoff game on Nov. 18 at Dooley Field. The Yellow Jackets will play in their home black jerseys.
