Dr. Beecher Edward Morton, Jr., 90, widower of Mary Sue "Boots" Mullinax Morton, died October 20, 2013 at Ashlan Village.

A native of Great Falls, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Beecher Edward Morton, Sr. and Ida Elizabeth Coggins Morton. Dr. Morton was a graduate of Furman University and a U.S. Navy WWII Veteran.

He was a coach and teacher at Walhalla High School, Principal at Salem High School and Wren High School, and Superintendent of Education for Anderson County and Aiken County Schools.

Dr. Morton was a member of the Lions Club and of the Methodist faith.

Surviving:

Surviving are two sons, Beecher E. "Butch" Morton, III (Vicki) of Williamston, SC and Brian K. Morton (Joanne) of Aiken; a sister, Jacqueline Waggoner (Barthel) of Natchez, Mississippi; three grandchildren, Jesse Morton, Ella Morton, and Sadie Morton; a special friend, Mattie Stroud; a sister-in-law, Billie Jean Morton; and a brother-in-law, Ed Laughridge.

Dr. Morton was predeceased by siblings, Dever Morton, Earl Morton, and Frances Laughridge.

Funeral Services:

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at The Wood Mortuary, conducted by Dr. Rodney Powell. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held 9:30-10:45 a.m. Wednesday at The Wood Mortuary.
