Dr. Jean Roper James, 80, died September 23, 2015 at the Haven.
A native of Greenville County, daughter of the late Broadus and Elizabeth LaFoy Roper, she was a retired professor of Early Childhood Education at North Greenville University.
She earned her Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina in 1980.
Dr. James was a former kindergarten teacher at Greer First Baptist Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Cindy James Alpers of Greer; one son, David James (Joy) of Easley; one sister, Marion Hiller (Jack) of Springfield, VA; one niece, Elizabeth Settlemeyer of Arlington, VA and two nephews, Lawrence Morris of NJ and Paul Morris of NY.
She enjoyed being a grandmother to her two granddaughters, Kayla and Lauren James.
Dr. James was predeceased by one son, Jim James and one sister, Rebecca Morris.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Wood Mortuary conducted by Rev. Jonathan Slagenweit.
Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held 12:30-1:45 p.m. Saturday at Wood Mortuary.
