Dr. Theron Otis Walker, Jr, 91, beloved husband of Sara Milford Walker, with whom he had 68 years of devoted marriage, died February 12, 2017.

He was the son of the late Theron Otis Walker and Janie Hughes Walker.

All his life he was an active member of Greer First Baptist Church where he was a deacon for many years. At the time of his death he was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class.

After attending Clemson and Furman University, he received his M.D. degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1948.

He completed his internship at the then Greenville General Hospital and practiced General Medicine in Greer for 47 years, a beloved physician to untold numbers of people, retiring in May, 1996.

He was a former member of the Allen Bennett Memorial Hospital Staff and chairman for one term. He was a member of the SC Medical Association.

He served for 20 years as a medical officer in the SC National Guard, retiring as Lieutenant Colonel.

Surviving:

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Dr. Theron Otis Walker, III (Cathy); two daughters, Beth Walker Miller (Marion), and Sally Walker Hughes (Dr. Woodrow); five grandsons, Matt Walker (Jennifer), Todd Walker (Dr. Lisa), Rev. Chuck Miller (Jill), Will Hughes, Ashley Senn (Claudia); four granddaughters, Kathy Howard (Dr. Moye), Leigh Blackwell (Jason), Rebecca Johnson (Barry), and Sheena Senn (Ben); and 16 great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Jane Kinard, and one great granddaughter, Haley Rebecca Hughes.

Funeral Services:

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at The Wood Mortuary, conducted by Mrs. Dottie Bryson and Rev. Chuck Miller.

Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons and honorary escort will be the Willing Workers SS Class. Burial service will be private.

The family would like to express special appreciation to Kevin Gibson, his caregiver and family friend.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Greer First Baptist Church, Annie Armstrong Easter Offering, 201 W. Poinsett St., Greer, SC 29650.
