Helen "Patty" Newton Millwood, 86, formerly of 523 Benton St., died April 6, 2013 at Cottingham Hospice House, after a courageous battle with cancer.
A native of Langdale, AL, daughter of the late Charlie and Rozelle Newton, a graduate of the Hillman School of Nursing in Birmingham, AL, and a member of the U.S. Army Nurses Corp during the Korean War.
She was a retired Registered Nurse with the Veteran?s Administration, where she worked until the age of 72; she then volunteered with the Greenville Hospital System, Greer Campus until the age of 84.
She was a member of Washington Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, John William "Bill" Millwood, Sr. of Greer; one daughter, Sidney Davenport and her husband, George of Salem, SC; one granddaughter, Shannon Burgess of Greer; one great-granddaughter, Paris Burgess of Greer; two step-sons, Leroy Lackey of Bowling Green, KY and Wayne Lackey of Napa, CA; one step-daughter-in-law, Cathy Millwood of Tryon, NC; three step-grandsons, J.W. Millwood, Skip Davenport, and Mark Davenport all of Greer; and numerous step-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Millwood was predeceased by one brother, Charlie Newton and one sister, Hazel Roberts.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday 2:00 p.m. at The Wood Mortuary, conducted by Dr. Drew Hines.
Visitation will follow the service at the mortuary.
There will be a private interment service.
The family extends special thanks to the staff at Belvedere Commons and the Cottingham Hospice House of Seneca for their special love and care.
