Judy Hadden Spencer, 68, of Waynesville, NC, passed into eternal peace on December 26, 2015, at Brookdale Asheville Overlook Senior Living Center in Asheville, NC.

Born in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Lewis William Hadden and Irene Hendrix Hadden.

A graduate of Spartanburg High School, Class of 1965, she graduated from Winthrop College with a Bachelor's Degree in sociology.

She spent almost 30 years in social work employed by the State of North Carolina, primarily in Haywood County.

She was well known across North Carolina in the social work community for her dedication and expertise. In particular, she loved helping the elderly.

She retired in 1996 and pursued photography and home improvements and spent time with her family.

Independent and energetic, she enjoyed the outdoors and the challenge of do-it-yourself home repairs and projects.

She loved collecting shells, eating seafood, and riding carnival rides on her happy visits to Ocean Drive Beach, South Carolina, and Wilmington, North Carolina.

She was formerly married to Frederick Rigdon Spencer, Sr.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of Brookdale Asheville Overlook and Four Seasons Compassion for Life Hospice for their love and support.

Surviving:

She is survived by her son, Frederick Rigdon Spencer, Jr. (Teressa); granddaughter, Christine Rigdon Spencer; step-granddaughter, Crystal Jackson; step-great-granddaughter, Sophia Jackson; step-great-grandson, Syeed Jackson; sister, Jane Hadden Alperson (Philip); and niece, Reva Alperson.



Funeral Services:

A service to celebrate Judy's life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015 at Abner Creek Baptist Church in Greer, SC, with Pastor Baxter Wynn of First Baptist Church, Greenville, officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial at the Abner Creek Baptist Church Cemetery will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers and as a remembrance of the helping hand she gave to those in need, donations in her memory may be made to: Haywood County Meals on Wheels, 157 Paragon Parkway, Clyde, NC 28721.
