Louise Anderson Waters, 90, widow of B.B. Waters, Jr., died peacefully, surrounded by her four children at The Cottages at Brushy Creek on Thursday, June 18, 2015.
She was the daughter of the late Louis and Lillian Drummond Anderson of Laurens, SC.
She grew up in Laurens, attended Laurens County Schools and graduated from Laurens High School at sixteen as valedictorian of her class. She graduated from Limestone College at nineteen, again as valedictorian of her class and moved to Greer to teach High School English, Latin and French.
She married B.B. Waters, Jr. in December of 1947. Together they raised their children in the shadow of First Baptist Church of Greer.
She was the consummate homemaker and hostess, known for her hospitality. She was a true southern lady.
Mrs. Waters was heavily involved in her church and taught many different ages in Sunday School and Bible Study for more than fifty years.
Her greatest accomplishment in the church may have been her influence on the lives of young women. She also served two terms as a Trustee of the Southern Baptist Home Mission Board in the 1970's.
Louise delivered meals for Greer Community Ministries from the first day of service until she was no longer able to drive. She loved her Lord, her church and her friends with a passion that was demonstrated in her daily life.
She was predeceased by her brother, Drummond Anderson, and her sisters, Mary McAbee, Francis Taylor and Lillian White.
Mrs. Waters is survived by her children, Benjamin B. Waters, III (Vicki), Rebecca W. Harris (Charles), Louis A. Waters (Pam), and Ruth W. McWhite (Dr. Allen); grandchildren, Ben Waters (Beth), Gabe Waters (Ashley), Richard Harris, Louis Harris (Stephanie), Marie Waters Weaver (Jonathan), Jodi Tanksley (Rob), David McWhite (April), Jonathan McWhite (Aimee), Anna Waters (fiancé Mack Rains), Elizabeth McWhite Williams (Caleb), Miriam McWhite and Tolli McWhite. She is also survived by 16 great grandchildren, her special friend Hal Huey, and a large number of nieces and nephews.
Louise found great joy in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She attended every event in their lives as long as she was able and was always available to care for them.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Greer First Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Rick Ezell, Dr. Wilson Nelson and Dr. D. Allen McWhite.
A private family burial will be held in Mountain View Cemetery.
Music will be provided by her son-in-law, Charles Harris.
Visitation will be held 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday at The Wood Mortuary.
The family is at their respective homes.
The family wishes to thank the staff of The Cottages at Brushy Creek for their many kindnesses to our mother and the wonderful medical care she received during her last year.
Special thanks to the nurses of Gentiva Hospice who guided us all through her last days.
