Mary Catherine Vaughn Clapp, 89, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2015 at Greenville Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born in Duncan, S.C. on October 14, 1925, and was the daughter of the late Joseph Leroy Vaughn, Sr., and Sarah Brissie Vaughn.
She was predeceased by her husband, George W. Clapp, Jr., and infant daughter, Talma Elizabeth Clapp and two brothers, J.L. Vaughn, Jr. and George Brissie Vaughn.
Mary was a member of Taylors First Baptist Church and Alewine/Lee/Biesecker Life Group.
She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Greer Chapter No. 151. She served twice as Worthy Matron of Greenville Chapter No. 31 and held many local and statewide appointments including District Deputy-District 3, Grand Representative of Delaware in SC and Grand Chaplain of the Grand Chapter of SC 1991-1992.
She held a particular fondness for the Estarl Scholarship Fund that provides scholarships for students pursuing studies for Christian Ministry.
She is survived by a daughter, Camelia McLeod and her husband Oscar.
She leaves two granddaughters, Heather Melton (Steve) and Stephanie Burns (Tommy); five great-grandchildren, Caleb, Zachary and Joshua Melton, Sarah and Connor Burns; one niece and three nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27, at Wood Mortuary in Greer, SC.
Services will be conducted by Dr. Jimmie Harley on Saturday, March 28, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Wood Mortuary.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, SC.
The family is at the home of the daughter, Camelia McLeod, 402 Drewry Road, Taylors, S.C. 29687.
