Ollie Brown Khan, 89, passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Eden Terrace of Spartanburg.
A native of Spartanburg County, daughter of the late Oscar Alexander and Clara Gertrude Bentley Brown, she went to Washington, DC at the age of sixteen, during World War II, to work for the US Information Agency (USIA), now known as the US State Department; she served two tours for the Foreign Service in Rome, Italy at the US Embassy. She returned to Greenville, SC to work for Congressman James Mann and then began her career with the Social Security Administration, where she retired.
Surviving are one niece, Sylvia Brown Newsome (Craig) of Weddington, NC; two great nephews, Zachary D. Newsome of Charleston, SC and Alexander W. Newsome of Weddington, NC; and one great niece, Samantha S. Newsome of Weddington, NC.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Oscar Ray Brown and Jamie L. Brown and his wife, Elsa H. Brown, and one nephew, David Ray Brown.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 p.m. Monday, August 7, 2017, at The Wood Mortuary Chapel conducted by Dr. Jean Smith.
Burial will follow in Wood Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held 3:00 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. Monday prior to the service.
