Pastor Richard Ervin Barney, 82, died March 29, 2016 at Southern Oaks Assisted Living.
A native of Esko, Minnesota, son of the late George and Hennie Stenroos Barney, he was a retired minister having served the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for over 21 years and Minneapolis for 5 years and served many years in foreign mission work.
Pastor Barney was a member of Eastside Apostolic Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Elaine Sunnarborg Barney of the home; four sons, Thomas Barney (Helen) of Chassell, Michigan, David Barney (Janette) of Reedsburg, Wisconsin, Steve Barney of Moore, South Carolina and Bruce Barney (Hannah) of Chisholm, Minnesota; five daughters, Jacqueline Wuori (Steve) of Calgary, Canada, Susan Stromer of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Wendy Hanson (Tom) of Prinesville, Oregon, Kris Smith (Darrell) of Greer, South Carolina and Sara Matson of Nampa, Idaho; one brother, Curtis Barney of Chandler, Arizona; two sisters, Nancy Sunnarborg of Esko, Minnesota and Dolly Johnson of Pelkie, Michigan; thirty grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
Pastor Barney was predeceased by five brothers, Ray, Bob, Darrell, Norm and Millard Barney, one sister, Marian Sunnarborg, a grandson, Nathan Wuori and a great-grandson, Skyler Impola.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. Saturday at Eastside Apostolic Lutheran Church, conducted by Pastor Raymond Hillman and Stephen Wuori.
Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Tom Barney, David Barney, Bruce Barney, Joe Stromer, Ryan Stromer and Brad Wuori.
Grandsons will serve as honorary escort.
Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Saturday at the church.
