Veteran

Philip Edward Lazar, 86, passed away March 11, 2024.

A native of Greenville County, South Carolina, son of the late John P. Lazar and Nellie Owensby Weaver, he served in the United States Air Force Reserve, was a retired employee for Dixie Drivers Services and Lowenstein, and a member of Parkway Baptist Church.

As a retired Master Sargent from the Air Force Reserves, Ed loved all elements of flight. He is an avid model aircraft builder. One of his favorite pastimes was attending airshows. He visited every aviation and military museum he could find in his travels.

Ed enjoyed traveling. He made 6 lengthy coast to coast U.S. trips and had planned another one for September of this year. He loved animals and fed the feral cats in his neighborhood. He gave them a warm, dry place to stay at night in his "heated cat house". Ed had many indoor cats over the years, the latest being Vega and Arthur.

Ed was the family "rock", not just for his immediate family, but the extended family as well. Many would tell you he offered shelter from the storm, was calm in every crisis and gave good down-to-earth advice. He treated everyone equally, never judging, making everyone feel welcome. He has set a high example for many generations that have had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years, JoAnn Lewis Lazar of the home; two sons, Jeff Lazar (Donna) of Wellford, South Carolina and Brian Lazar of Wellford, South Carolina; one sister, Angie Willis of Liberty, South Carolina; five grandchildren, Cameron (Stephanie), Megan, Joey (Jessica), Heather (Daniel), and Chad; seven great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
