Ruth Evangeline "Vangie" Farmer, was peacefully taken by the hand of God into his glorious presence on May 4, 2024.
A native of Greenville County, South Carolina, daughter of the late Jack and Hazel Wilson, she was a faithful wife to late husband Garold Farmer for 55 years and a devoted mother and grandmother.
Evangeline enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, playing the piano, and spending time with her family. Through the years she made each of her children and grandchildren quilt.
She can be remembered as sitting at the piano playing loudly and singing praises to the Lord, which when she was able she did very frequently.
She spent many hours in the kitchen with her husband teaching him how to cook. In later years, with declining health, she and Garold would cook family meals together as she told him each step to make turning him into an excellent cook like she was.
Mrs. Farmer was a member of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church where in past years she taught Girls in Action, (serving as director for many years), Sunday school, Training Union, assisted with vacation bible school and went on mission trips.
While at Washington Baptist Church, she served as GA director for several years and taught Sunday school and Training Union. During this time she and Garold purchased a station wagon so they could make sure many elderly adults and children had transport to and from church. Through the years they carried many people to church and many lives were changed because of the devotion they had to serve God in that capacity.
She was a witness to others, sharing her testimony to the lost and leading numerous people to Christ through the years. Evangeline also made sure many
families in need had food as well as making sure needy children had Christmas presents.
Mrs. Farmer delivered Meals on Wheels for 13 years, for the first few years she delivered those meals with her small grandsons, Sam, Jonathan, and Dillon instilling in them the importance of giving to others and displaying to them her love for others and Christ. In the last few years, she and Garold enjoyed delivering the meals together and fellowship with those who received the meals.
Evangeline was in her Bible daily. In her last years as her sight began to fail, she would listen to the Bible on audio every night before going to bed. She was a prayer warrior and never ceased to pray for her family, friends, church, and those in need. She quite often had a continual dialogue of prayer with God all during the day. Even in difficult times, as she faced declining health and the death of her husband, Evangeline continued to remain a faithful Christian who put the Lord first, never questioning him but always saying that his will is best even if we don?t understand it. Her moto in life was simply,"it is well with my soul." Her daughters, grandsons, and great-grandchildren saw a light in her that forever shown that Christ's love and will be a wonderful example of Christian love for them throughout their future.
In her last few weeks as her health declined, she often talked about how one needs to be patient with life, and how beautiful Heaven was and the most important thing in life was God.
One of the things she quite often shared with her family when they needed it was 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trust, always hopes, always perseveres.? Love was something she taught, lived, and had an abundance of. Her love was never boastful or proud but always giving and offered hope to those she knew.
Her favorite bible verse is one which she truly lived by. Psalms 19:14 "May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my be pleasing in your sign oh Lord, my strength, my redeemer".
Surviving are two daughters, Alice Prentice (James) and Julie Bull (Mickey) both of Greer, South Carolina; three grandchildren, Sam Prentice (Starr) of Greer, South Carolina, Jonathan Bull (Bristol) of Greer, South Carolina, and Dillon Bull of Campobello, South Carolina; five great-grandchildren, Eva Prentice, Lawson Prentice, Keagan Prentice, Savannah Bull, and Slade Bull; one brother, Jim Wilson (Pat) of Spartanburg, South Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Farmer was predeceased by one brother, Doc Wilson.
