Wilbur Edward Satterfield, 82, husband of Lottie Ann Hamby Satterfield for 65 years, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, December 27, 2013.
Wilbur was born February 19, 1931, in Greenville County to the late Grady and Hattie Walls Satterfield. He served in the United States Air Force, retired from Homelite, and was a faithful member of Cross Roads Baptist Church.
Wilbur, known by most as "Papa Wilbur", lived to make others smile. He was an avid golfer and played weekly with a group at Lakeview Golf Course. As a baseball fan, he coached his sons' youth teams at Texize, and later in life, you could find him in the stands cheering for his grandson, and most recently his great grandson, playing the game he loved. Wilbur was also an amazing cook and prepared Sunday dinner each week for his family and anyone that walked through his doors.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Ricky Satterfield and girlfriend Michelle Frizzell; a daughter-in-law Wanda Goodwin; a sister, Pat Gibson and husband Gene; a brother, Bobby and Patsy Satterfield; two grandchildren, Stephanie Atkins and husband Tripp, Brandon Satterfield and wife Jessica; three great-grandchildren, Cole and Ellis Atkins and Selah Satterfield. He was predeceased by two sons, Randy and Robbie Satterfield, and a sister, JoAnn Ward.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 29th, at Cross Roads Baptist Church from 1:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. prior to the Funeral Service at 3:00 p.m. The service will be conducted by Rev. Michael Sheehan, Rev. Heath Carruth, and Rev. Paul Jagoe. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Satterfield, Tripp Atkins, Kevin McKee, Stephen McKee, Carroll McKee, and Roger Massengale.
Honorary escorts will be the Men?s Bible Sunday School Class of Cross Roads Baptist Church, Ricky Massengale, Virgil Burket, Jr., Jim Curtis and Hector Morales.
The family would like to recognize the loving assistance of our friend Jewel Feronti and the supportive care of Journey Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Journey Hospice, 665 N. Academy Street, Greenville, SC, or Cross Roads Baptist Church, 705 Anderson Ridge Road, Greer, SC.
The family is at the home.
