The North Pole Dance Studio has opened at the Depot. Yolanda Morton, owner, learned pole dancing in Atlanta and opened her first studio in Greenville before relocating in Greer.
Women in a downtown restaurant were talking about the "Pole/Flirty Laptease" coupon for the new Greer business on a social media website.
Businessmen were amused that Greer today has a "Strip Club" to go along with the newly opened pole dance studio. The Strip Club 104 Steak House is Jason Clark's idea of a catchy marketing name.
Yolanda Morton, owner of the pole dancing studio at 300 Randall Street, said the name represents a fitness boutique for women. "I call it pole ballet or pole fitness. We focus on fitness. There's a warmup first and then we get into the exercise. The ladies can use the exercises to tone up and they feel fabulous about themselves."
The "Six Weeks to Sexy" class (beginner level) is enrolling for $150 for six one-hour sessions.
No men or children are admitted to the studio or given classes. Morton said her demographic is women age 18 to 62. The curtains are pulled while women are exercising. Classes are held in group sessions in the evening, by appointment on weekends and parties are booked during the day.
"It's extremely hard," Morton said. "It takes a lot of strength to pull one's weight up. Pole exercise is an alternative to going to the gym."
Morton said she learned to pole dance in Atlanta and her first studio was on E. North Street in Greenville until she relocated to Greer.
