A Greer teen broke three state records in the USA Powerlifting Palmetto Classic.
Carson McAbee, 17, broke the Teen 2 group with a squat of 457.4 pounds (207.5 kg). The previous record, 374 pounds (227.5 kg) was set in 2010. He broke the record for Teen 2 deadlift by lifting 500.5 pounds (227.5 kg) beating the previous 2010 record of 434.5 pounds (197.5 kg).
McABee also broke the Teen 2 record for total weight lifted for the day, 1204.5 pounds (547.5 kg), the previous 2010 total weight record of 1,133 pounds(197.5 kg). He also benched press 247.5 pounds (112.5 kg).
McAbee will compete in the nationals in October in Orlando, Fla.
He is a senior at St. Joseph’s Catholic School where he plays varsity baseball. McAbee is the son of Joey and Renee McAbee of Greer and grandson of Joe McBee of Blue Ridge and Jeanene Cain of Orangeburg.
