Troy Pride Sr. scored the winning touchdown for Greer in its victory over Union County this year in the "Jacket Bowl". Both teams may meet again in the 3A playoffs.
The game is one of a series of three high school all-star games produced by Blue-Grey Football.
It’s suggested some athletes traveling to the game at Raymond James Stadium, home of the NFL Tampa Bay Buccaneers, offset their personal expenses for travel, room and board by asking for support on the crowdfunding platform.
Pride wrote an open letter to businesses and individuals on his page asking for donations to raise a portion of the overall cost.
Pride, a senior who has also been selected for the Shrine Bowl, Dec. 19 at Wofford College, plays wide receiver and defensive back for the Yellow Jackets. This season he has:
• Caught 31 passes for 621 yards and 9 TDs as a wide receiver,
• Made 36 tackles, 11 assists, 2 tackles for loss, 1 sack, recovered two fumbles as defensive back,
• Intercepted three passes, 1 returned for a TD,
• Returned 3 punts for TDs.
Pride is the 2015 state champion in the 400-meter dash.
He committed to Virginia Tech last year before head coach Frank Beamer announced his retirement after this season. Shane Beamer, assistant head coach, helped recruit Pride.
Pride has also been selected to play in the Shrine Bowl on Dec. 19, 1 p.m. at Wofford College.
Greer plays Travelers Rest Friday at Dooley Field in the first round of the Class 3A state playoffs. Tickets are $7 each at the gate.
