Riverside (0-10) figured it had to pull out all its arsenal when it conducted two onside kicks and a fake punt – all in the first half – with all of them failing.
Wade Hampton (2-8) scored on a safety, a Josh Edwards 42-yard touchdown run and JJ Richardson’s 17-yard interception return in the first quarter. Brenden Glick’s two points after touchdown was all the scoring Wade Hampton would need as it built a 16-0 first quarter advantage.
Wade Hampton toyed with Riverside on its final possession of the first half when it sent 270-pound offensive lineman Marquis Shell twice into the line on short carries, scoring on a 1-yard run on his second run for a TD that had Wade Hampton’s sidelines waving towels and jumping up and down. The Generals had a 23-0 halftime lead.
Riverside’s 13 points in the second half was the most it scored this season. That gave the Warriors 51 total points while its defense was smother for a 10-game today of 493 points.
Riverside’s final game of the season is at Dorman next Friday. Wade Hampton hosts Byrnes.
