Robertson had a successful year at Greer Relief as it celebrated its 75th anniversary in the community. Sooie’t Relief BBQ was held for the second year in a row in August and was a financial success. The third annual event is on the calendar for 2013.
VITA, a tax preparation program filed from Greer Relief averaged $894 per household that used the initiative. The program provided free tax help to low- to moderate-income, $50,000 and below, who cannot prepare their own tax returns. Certified volunteers, with training, helped to prepare the basic returns and file them electronically.
Roses for Relief, a fundraiser held in March and tied in to St. Patrick’s Day, raised $13,200.
As the holidays are approaching and cooler than normal weather is forecast, Greer Relief will provide support for families needing help with utilities. Food is donated to families during Thanksgiving and families can also register for gifts provided to them and their children for Christmas.
Greer Relief is an agency under the United Way.
