Previous SCC President Dan L. Terhune recounted how upon his arrival in Spartanburg in 1996 he believed SCC should establish a presence in downtown Spartanburg and spoke of the many meetings he had with community leaders to discuss possibilities before pursuing the project prior to his retirement. "With the opening the Evans Academic Center, we can see that great things can be done when the right people are involved," said Terhune. "I've always been proud to be associated with Spartanburg Community College, but never any prouder than I am tonight."
"It has been said that it takes a community to raise a child. Based on my experiences, I think that statement is also true for almost anything worthwhile. One person or one college cannot make a project successful," said Henry C. Giles, Jr. SCC president. "It takes a full community working together, and this campus exemplifies what Spartanburg can accomplish when it comes together."
Originally known as the Evans Building, the historic 1920's structure served as the center of Spartanburg's educational system for more than 50 years as the Frank Evans High School, Spartanburg High School and Evans Junior High School, before being acquired by Spartanburg County.
The Evans Academic Center is located at 220 E. Kennedy Street. Call 864-592-4050 visit here or call 864-592-4050.
