A portal for residents and visitors will lead them inside to an information desk, rooms and activity areas.
The 89 private resident suites, with one dedicated wing for 25 memory support needs, is a $15 million complex at 715 S. Buncombe Road, across from Greer Memorial Hospital. Thrive Senior Living and Pulliam Investment Company are developers.
Staffing is ongoing with 40 employees to be hired.
“We like to say our community is innovative technology with Southern hospitality where care is at the core of our mission,” Kim Burgess, Executive Director, said.
“This is a state-of-the-art assisted living facility,” Burgess said. “We feature Smart Senior Living with the use of hand-held devices that include medical records and information about the care of each resident.”
Burgess said the use of technology connects the resident, caregivers, doctors and their staff for instantaneous access and consultation to resolve issues with patients’ care and prescription needs.
“Using technology improves residents’ quality of life and delivers care more efficiently and with accountability,” Burgess said.
There will be Smart Suite motion detectors able to detect the path of residents, and chips in wristbands to detect a resident's activity when alone or at night. “That is beneficial to us with a resident with dementia. Or residents may be having difficulty with new medicine that we can detect. Sometimes residents, for whatever reasons, are reluctant or forget to tell us everything,"Burgess said.
Burgess said the practices are not intended to be invasive.
“We will be able to see if a resident has a restless night, getting up frequently and can address that with them to see if there are medical or prescription reasons,” Burgess said.
“Piece of mind is priceless for families,” Burgess said.
Being across from the Greer Memorial Hospital campus is a benefit for Thrive residents, Burgess said.
Amenities include an activity center, beauty salon, spa, coffee shop, and a fitness center. Technology will also allow residents to enjoy “Streetview Tours” of anywhere on earth, play interactive trivia, and participate in various activities intended to both entertain and sharpen mental acuity.
The finishing touches on the assisted living buildings, inside and out, continue and the designated wing for residents with memory care issues is being secured. Landscaping will be in place by late August.
Several courtyards will be among the amenities including an outdoor sitting area on the second floor. “That view will give residents the ability of watching planes leaving or arriving at the (GSP) airport,” Burgess said.
