Jackson Tipton, a defensive back with Greer High School, signed a grant-in-aid to play football at Union College in Barbourville, Ky.
Tipton had 23 individual tackles, 18 assists, three interceptions, and one each tackle for loss, recovered fumble, blocked pass and scored one touchdown.
“I think Jackson will be on every special teams and play in the secondary,” Greer Head Coach Will Young said. “He will be one of those kids that make a play and people will wonder ‘How did he do it?”
Zak Willis, head coach at Union College, also said Tipton’s mental toughness will be welcome for his program.
“Jackson is a tremendous addition to our team. He has an extremely high football IQ,” Willis said. “His ability to anticipate where the ball is going and deceptive speed made him a high priority for us in this class.
“We believe that his character and mental toughness set him apart and that he will be a big contributor and leader for our program as we go forward.”
Young said Tipton plays the way he practices. “He made himself into a good player, by work ethic and leadership skills.”
