Troy Pride Jr., a junior at Greer High School, has committed to Virginia Tech to play defensive back in the 2016 class.

Pride became VPI’s third commitment for the class when he announced he will sign with the Hokies next February.

“Blessed to say I have verbally committed to further my education and football career with the Virginia Tech Hokies #beamerball #DBU," Pride wrote. Pride visited Blacksburg, Va., for the Hokies’ junior day even the weekend after signing day two weeks ago.

Pride, 6-foot, 165-pounds, was one of the top athletes in Greer's prized junior class this past season. He played running back and defensive back.

Playing against his brother Chance, at Eastside last year, Troy showed his versatility by scoring on a 70-yard touchdown run and also recorded an interception.

He got an offer from Virginia Tech in December. Georgia, Georgia Tech and Boston College have also expressed interest in Pride, according to a recruiting service. Pride, is three-star recruit by Rivals.
