Railroad tracks were pulled up, a warehouse demolished and grading continued in the first full week of activity since groundbreaking March 1 at the site of the Inland Port in Greer.

A warehouse on the port property was demolished and cleared this week with railroad tracks serviced by Norfolk & Southern removed that led to the storage building. The foundation is scheduled to be taken up next week.

The rail spur to the port warehouse was partially pulled up, but the spur to Nordic Cold Storage will remain intact until that company vacates its warehouse for demolition. Blue Bell Ice Cream is a customer of Nordic.

The $35 million South Carolina Inland Port (SCIP) is scheduled for a fall opening.

The port will link Charleston and Greer by rail to improve the efficiency of international freight movements from the South Carolina coast to the Upstate.
