Alton Kenneth "Toby" Wright, 95, WWII decorated veteran and long-time Wood Mortuary employee, died June 21.
A native of Buffalo, son of the late Qular Mason and Eva Hardeman Wright, he was a retired Superintendant for Wood Memorial Park and employed at The Wood Mortuary for 76 years.
Mr. Wright was a US Army WWII Veteran, member of the 178 Artillery where he served in North Africa, England, Tunisia, Sicily, Naples and Rome. He was the recipient of the Silver Star Medal for his valor in Italy. He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church.
Surviving is his wife, Doris Dickson Wright of the home; one daughter and son-in-law Dixie and Steve Kennette of Lyman and two grandchildren, Corrie Kennette of Lyman and Stephen Kennette, Jr., of Greer.
Mr. Wright was predeceased by one brother, Marvin Wright and one sister, Gillette Wright Garrison.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday at Memorial United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Arthur Holt, Rev. John Rush and Rev. Joseph Curtis. Burial will follow in Wood Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday at The Wood Mortuary.
Honorary escort will be the Ballenger-Duncan Sunday School class, the employees of The Wood Mortuary and Wood Memorial Park.
The family is at the home of daughter and son-in-law, Dixie and Steve Kennette, 1362 Gap Creek Road, Lyman, S.C. 29365.
