The toads are back on Main Street in downtown Greer and if you’re wondering who helped bring them back, look no further than 10 year-old Kelsi Kennemore.
Kennemore decided they needed to return after being displaced during the city’s streetscape project. Through research and support of her family, city, and downtown businesses, 16 toads have been installed on and off Trade Street.
The Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce announced Monday the hiring of David Merhib as its new president and CEO. Merhib has served as the president and CEO of the Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce in Brookings, SD for the past four years.
“I am looking forward to leading the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce and working with the Board of Directors, Chamber staff and Chamber membership,” Merhib said. “My goal is to keep the Chamber relevant through new and existing programs and initiatives that impact the business community as well as develop and create opportunities for business growth throughout the Greater Greer area.”
Eddie Donald spent 22 years in downtown Greer building his Foothills Art Glass business.
Donald, who has an unwritten monthly lease for $1,000 at 300 Trade Street, learned he is to vacate the building by July 15.
The 13th Annual Cypress Internal Medicine Oyster Roast (shrimp boil and pig pickin’), might look a little different this year. The Leadership Greer Class XXXVII has adopted the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce’s annual event to benefit their class project, Play it Forward.
The event will be held on Friday, February 24th from 6-9pm at 113 Berry Ave in Greer.

The Greer Station Vintage Christmas is Thursday through Saturday at Grace Hall.
The indoor event will benefit Saved by the Heart, a non-profit for animal rescue serving Greer. Last year’s event helped raise funds for the rescue’s veterinary, food, maintenance bills and foster program.

Halloween Hoopla is the second Halloween event this week hosted in downtown Greer. Saturday’s event is at City Park.
It’s trick-or-treat on Trade Street and its connecting downtown streets Tuesday.
The annual candy fest, which appears to be doubling each year, officially begins at 5 – 8 p.m.
Jason Clark was in a pensive mood when he talked about the meaning of being selected the Restaurateur of the Year by the Upstate Hospitality Association for his BIN112 restaurant in Greer.

Upstate movie director KT Terry will be shooting a faith-based film called "Unconditional Surrender" throughout the Upstate in 2017. The movie will tackle the PTSD struggle many veterans face upon returning home from combat.
"We lose 22 soldiers a day to suicide due to PTSD and you and I can be part of the solution." stated Terry. "Unconditional Surrender will focus on a soldier's return home to his family, and the battles he struggles with returning to a normal' life."
