Greer wrapped its arms around Cliff Harpst, a WWII hero, who settled in Greer in 2007
Upon moving to the City of Greer following his wife’s death in 2007, World War II veteran Cliff Harpst became a fixture in the community, weaving tales about his life and war experiences throughout downtown Greer.
Homer “Carly” Campbell never received the medals he earned while in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Friday, Campbell was presented the WW II Victory medal among others in a glass-encased box. Documents detailing Campbell's service were approved through the U.S. Department of Defense and aided by South Carolina Senator Tim Scott.
If he was 18, Kevin Siegmund would enlist in the military again.
Siegmund, who works in Information Technology at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System (SRHS), retired from the United States Army in 2005 after serving for 21 years. He served in five overseas assignments, including Turkey, Iraq and in Asia.
As we honor our military on Veterans Day Friday, pause and say “Thank you” and also remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for protecting the freedoms we enjoy.
Gemma Miller, a GreerToday.com intern from the University of South Carolina Upstate, spent Saturday at the Eastside YMCA in Taylors to visit with veterans and let them tell stories of their service while in the United States military.
