Blue Ridge, Greer and Riverside high school baseball seniors were honored last week as the regular season wound down.
Among the seniors were a half dozen who signed grants-in-aid to play baseball in college beginning in the fall.
Samantha Bagley pitched and batted Greer to a 3-2 win over visiting Blue Ridge Friday that gave the Lady Yellow Jackets the Region II-AAA championship and No. 1 seed headed into the state softball playoffs.
The Blue Ridge Middle School dominated its region as the Lady Tigers finished the regular season unbeaten en route to the Region Championship.
Opponents scored only three runs.
Blue Ridge High School FBLA member Karlee Gibson was elected as a FBLA state officer at the 2014 FBLA State Conference held in Charleston March 27-30.
Karlee is the current vice-president of the Blue Ridge Chapter of FBLA. She was elected to service as the state reporter for the 2014-2015 school year. Karlee is also an active member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club as well as the Lady Tiger’s Tennis team. She has been a member of the Blue Ridge chapter for three years and competed at the 2012 National Conference in San Antonio, Texas and the 2013 National Conference in Anaheim, Calif. She will go to Nashville, Tenn,. this summer to compete in the 2014 National Conference.
The Blue Ridge High School Future Business Leaders Association chapter received recognition in several competitive events at the FBLA State Leadership Conferences held in Charleston recently. The competitive events were part of a two-day program for FBLA members from around the state. The chapter had 28 members attending the two-day conference. Students placing 1st-3rd in their competition qualified to compete at the 2014 National Conference in Nashville, Tenn., to be held at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center.
The following students qualified to attend the national conference: Jaclyn Kellems and Ryan Teems, 1st Place in Desktop Publishing; Taylor Holton, 1st Place in Electronic Career Portfolio; Savannah Reeves, 1st Place in Word Processing; Karlee Gibson and Abby Roth, 2nd Place in Digital Design and Promotion; Heather Fitch and Charlee Wilkerson, 2nd Place in Public Service Announcement; marc Western, 2nd Place in E-Business; Mary Anna Case and Courtney LeHew, 3rd Place in E-Business; and Jon Andrews, Taylor Holton, and Darrin Andrews, 3rd Place in Community Service Project.
Greer beat Blue Ridge 8-5 Monday to take sole possession of the Region II-AAA softball standings.
Greer has won four straight games, three against Region opponents.

The Blue Ridge Choral Honors Men’s Choir placed first to give the program its third state high school championship in the AAA South Carolina Choral State Festival held in Columbia last week. The Honors Concert Choir placed fourth.
