Bob Jones Academy opened its doors to the 2011/2012 academic on Monday to a newly consolidated school system with a centralized office and communications system and shared academic resources/
A new mascot was unveiled during surprise visits to the high school student body assembly and the classrooms in the middle and elementary divisions. The lion was chosen because it embodies the three core principles of the academy, dedication to students and Christ; focus on academic excellence, the fine arts, athletics and ministry opportunities; and proven record of academics, faculty, student achievements and alumni effectiveness.
A Summer Reading Program established by TD Bank, has been introduced into the state to encourage children to maintain their reading skills while becoming financially fit young savers.
The program rewards children, who read 10 books during the summer, with a $10 deposit into a new or existing Young Saver account. Last year 31,823 children participated in the program and read 318,230 books, earning $318,230 for their Young Saver accounts.
As Greenville County public-school students head back to classes this month, nine of the best and brightest are also preparing to outsmart local personalities on Saturday, Aug. 20, at the TD Convention Center in Greenville.
Selected from the top fifth-grade graduates across the district, these students will be the class for the school fundraiser, “Are You Smarter Than a Greenville County Schools Fifth-Grader?” The event will raise funds for needed operational supplies for every school in the district.
