Miss Greater Greer Anna Brown served as the grand marshal for the Crestview Elementary School Book Float Parade Friday. She also visited Kelly Dill's kindergarten class.
Brown will compete in the Miss South Carolina pageant June 23-27 at Columbia's Township Auditorium.
Unit SC-20023 at Blue Ridge High School has been selected as one of 278 units to receive the 2014-2015 Air Force JROTC Distinguished Unit Award.
This award recognizes Air Force JROTC units that have performed above and beyond normal expectations and that have distinguished themselves through outstanding service to their school and community while meeting the Air Force JROTC mission of producing better citizens for America.

The Citizens Building & Loan Charitable Foundation has donated $10,000 in support of the Greer Christian Learning Center. The funds will be used toward the completion of the Greer Christian Learning Center’s new building across from Blue Ridge Middle School, according to Pierce Williams, GCLC treasurer.
Mutaz Sarhan of Greer has been awarded a $1,500 Subway of South Carolina Scholarship.
Sarhan is a graduating senior at Greer Middle College Charter High School in Taylors. He plans to study chemistry at Furman University, before continuing his studies in medical school. His father owns and operates the Subway restaurant on Spartanburg Highway in Lyman.
The Greater Greer Education Foundation awarded $13,000 in scholarships to 13 students from six high schools in the Greater Greer area Tuesday afternoon at Greer City Hall. Students were selected by the guidance department of each school and submitted to the Foundation. The Foundation in turn will present scholarship funds to the technical school or college on behalf of the student.
The scholarships fall into two categories: undesignated scholarships given by donors to the Foundation for study in particular fields and scholarships made possible by the contributions to the board’s scholarship fund.
Riverside Middle School was selected as the top "Healthy School" middle school in Greenville County.
Cindy Heos and the rest of the Healthy Schools Committee were recognized for planning activities focusing on healthy choices and for clubs and organizations that encourage students to stay active and healthy.

Emerson Blair Dingus of Greer will represent South Carolina in the International Cinderella Scholarship Program this summer in Dallas, Texas.
Emerson, 6, won the state title in April and will compete in the Tot division, ages 3-6 years old.
Abby Busha of Woodland Elementary School is setting an example of leadership by using “7 Habits of Happy Kids” by Sean Covey.
"I have loved learning about the ‘7 Habits of Happy Kids! Habit #1,’” Abby said. “Be proactive, is one of my favorites. It tells you to do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is looking.”
All things being equal, City Administrator Ed Driggers suggested, education would define the new City of Greer fire chief.
Dorian Flowers “identifies with the future culture of our (fire) department and leadership as we continue to change technically,” Driggers said. City of Greer department supervisors, hired by Driggers, all reflect college-educated backgrounds. Police and fire staff, encouraged to take continuing education courses, have obtained associate degrees and technical training certification.
Riverside High School sophomore Karen Zhao is the first female to win the championship in the 3rd Annual Cardboard Boat Race.
The event, held April 25 at the Middle Tyger YMCA pool in Duncan, drew more than 100 people.
