About 300 students in two Greer schools are beginning to use cutting-edge educational materials to learn the skills they need to land a job in advanced manufacturing, as industry leaders seek a larger pool of highly skilled workers.
North Greenville University presented its inaugural Leo Vernon Powell Legacy Award, and honored faithful supporters, at its 125th anniversary celebration in Greenville.
The Legacy Awards were given posthumously to Ruth Ashmore, wife of Russell C. Ashmore, Jr. from Taylors, and Dr. David Hayes, a 1988 North Greenville graduate and husband of Debbie Hayes from Monroe, N.C.
Carson McAbee is a gold medal winner in a sport that only the strongest can claim the title – Champion.
McAbee, 17, won the teen division of the USAPL Raw Powerlifting Championship in Orlando, Fla. All the more remarkable was it culminated McAbee’s first season of competing in the USA Powerlifting Championships.

The Med Trans and Air Med Regional helicopter and Vital Care units from the Greenville Health System, and the City of Greer Fire Department provided a fire truck to tour and firefighters helped students don turn-out gear.
