A memorial service is scheduled today (Wednesday, Feb. 13) for a sixth-grade student who was the beloved son of a University of South Carolina Upstate professor.
Ethan Frank Rubenzer, 11, died Sunday afternoon at Spartanburg Medical Center , two days after a crash in Boiling Springs en route to his school, High Point Academy. Ethan is the son of Trevor, a history professor, and Patti Rubenzer.
The Greer Virtual Enterprise class won the South Carolina State Business Plan Competition for the fourth consecutive year.
The team practiced many hours outside of school perfecting their business presentation. The team also practiced their presentations in classes.
The Greater Greer Education Foundation awarded $9,166.74 in grants Wednesday to 10 area schools. The grant requests were submitted by teachers at the schools.
Skip Davenport, past chairman of the Foundation, welcomed the group to the reception held at Greer City Hall. “We appreciate the community’s support which allows us to award these grants to area schools each year. With the grants we are awarding today, we have contributed more than $100,000 to schools in the Greater Greer area.”
