Kris calls this 'Gamecock Palmetto'. The palmetto represents the state's tree. Kris will explain what the "Gamecock" means.
Perhaps this 'Welcome Home' stained glass is reminiscent of her husband coming home from months of deployment as a naval aviator on an aircraft carrier.
'The Great Lights' is the title of this stained glass.
"I know that there is a bit of artist in everyone. It is just that we all receive and send artistic expression differently … fine arts, graphic arts, writing, cooking, landscaping, the list could go on and on," Kris said.
Kris grew up as the daughter of an artist. "My curiosity and enjoyment of his artistic skills encouraged me to try my hand at creative expression throughout my life. I have become involved in quilting, painting, calligraphy, crafting, baking and now stained glass art," she said.
Stained glass has been an interest of Kris' since she took a stained glass class in 1978. She has raised five children while her husband was deployed for a good part of their lives as a naval aviator on board an aircraft carrier.
Kris reopened the packages this year where she stored the glass.
"Living on a lake where people have large picture windows, I became convinced that some people would find my stained glass art perfect for their homes," Kris said. "I use old, reclaimed wooden windows as my base structure and go from there creating a unique stained glass art form."
Kris has an introductory story she provides customers. Part of the story reads, "With all of God’s creation to inspire me, I can truly say I am most joyful when I am creating something. Hopefully, you will agree, and enjoy it as much as I did in creating it."
Her display is easy to locate. It can be seen from the left of the doors as you enter the Shoppes at Grapevine.
