Mark Khoury was the most excited person at a pre-opening party at Abbott’s Frozen Custard Thursday night.
Khoury, owner of downtown Greer’s newest eatery at 119 E. Poinsett Street, told of his growing up in Rochester, N.Y., with Abbott’s as much a part of his life as the Clock restaurant is to Greer residents past and present.
Abbott’s Frozen Custard will open downtown Friday, Jan. at 119 East Poinsett Street. It’s the first franchise in the Carolinas and Georgia.
Owner Mark Khoury has renovated the former Dixie Shoe Shop into the custard store with a contemporary design. Windows have replaced the side brick wall to create a view into the alley that will serve as a common area with outside seating and tables with umbrellas.
It appears Abbott’s Frozen Custard will be open in December.
Jason Cole, general manager was handing out candy in an Abbott’s covered cup last Thursday during Halloween on Trade. “We still have a few things to do but it’s coming along,” Cole said. “We hope to be open next month in time for the holidays.”
Mark Khoury likes Abbott’s Frozen Custard so much he bought a franchise and is bringing it to Greer.
Khoury is visiting family in Rochester, N.Y., this week, home of Abbott’s, and making a daily run, sometimes more than once, for the frozen treat he grew up eating.
