Aloft filing for bankruptcy, balloon festival is closing

Published on Wednesday, June 11, 2014

Aloft organizers announced it is filing for bankruptcy and will end the hot-air balloon and concert festival at Heritage Park in Simpsonville.

Officials, in a statement, announced, “With heavy hearts, the board of directors and event organizers announced today that Aloft is in the process of filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.”

Declining attendance in recent years, weather-related cancellations during the event, including this Memorial Day Weekend festival, and about $50,000 owed the City of Simpsonville from the 2013 and 2014 festivals contributed to the event’s demise.
