The mash tun, formerly in the Blue Ridge Brewing Co. in downtown Greenville, was made of copper and came from the Czech Republic.
Bob Hiller, owner of Greer’s restaurant and craft brewpub at 308 Trade Street, is awaiting for clearance on the alcohol beverage permit from SLED to announce an official opening date.
“When SLED turns us loose, probably within a week or two, we’ll be within 30 days of opening,” Hiller said. That will be right within Hiller’s previously announced tentative opening this spring.
Hiller said his quick closure in Greenville has also opened opportunities from investors seeking to re-open the brewpub in Greenville. “I’ve been approached by two (investors) about opening a micro-brewery in Greenville,” Hiller told GreerToday.com. “We’ve got to have a place to brew our beer and within two years we will be running out of space in Greer.”
Hiller said his idea is to open the Greer location first and then commit on whether to invest in another property.
There is still some permitting and visits from Greer city officials for Hiller to obtain a certificate of occupancy. The core of his staff is in place, including the chef, and the menu is set.
“Right now we’re upholstering chairs and have practically everything in place,” Hiller said.
Rooftop outdoor dining is important to Hiller’s plans for the downtown restaurant.
“I don’t like opening restaurants in winter and the Greer rooftop is so important to us we feel pretty confident that we can be open in the first or second week of April,” Hiller said last December. The past week’s cold spell in the Upstate has made it feel like winter.
