The Blue Ridge Senior League team finished runner-up at the Southeast Regional baseball tournament at Safety Harbor, Fla., last week.
Blue Ridge lost to champion Virginia, 2-1, in the championship game. The team had to complete a game that was rain delayed from the previous night that Blue Ridge won 8-7 during its completion on Tuesday morning.
Blue Ridge beat Georgia, 8-4, in an elimination game later Wednesday, and played Virginia in the decisive game after a short break.
Blue Ridge advanced to the winner’s division of the eight-team tournament when it beat North Carolina, 5-2, in the first game of the tournament last Sunday. The South Carolina champions were edged 8-7 by Virginia for its first loss of the double elimination tournament in the night’s final game.
South Carolina beat Florida, North Carolina and Georgia en route to the championship game. South Carolina had to beat unbeaten Virginia twice to win the regional but was defeated in the first game to end the run toward the Senior World Series.
