This photo of the all-new X4 was captured at the Los Angeles Auto Show. It's the first time the BMW's newest member of the X family was shown outside of its concept introduced at the Shanghai Auto Show earlier this year.
The X4 concept was revealed earlier this year at the Shanghai Auto Show. This is the first world appearance of the all-new X4. The car is priced around $40,000, according to reports from Los Angeles and sales are said to begin in mid-2014.
The X4 is sportier than the X3, also produced in Greer. The X5 and X6 are also produced in Greer.
Engine sizes have yet to be confirmed but is expected to mirror the X3. Te entry-level X4 20d will be powered by the 181bhp 2.0-litre diesel and the X4 30d fitted with the 254bhp 3.0-litre straight six.
The X4 will be based on the same platform as the X3, so both rear wheel-drive and xDrive variants will be available.
BMW has begun a new round of hiring that will push the plant from more than 7,000 workers to about 8,000 on-site by the end of 2014. That includes 400-500 employees that will work at the new 440,000 square foot logistics warehouse built adjacent to the Inland Port in Greer.
Greer’s plant is nearing completion of a two-year, $900 million expansion of more than 1.6 million square feet. BMW projects production capacity at 350,000 vehicles per year. That would make the facility the No. 1 producer of BMW vehicles in the world, projected to surpass the plant in Dingolfing, Germany, with its 332,700 units in 2012.
