The property at the corner of West Poinsett Street and Wade Hampton Blvd., has been purchased by the City of Greer.
City Administrator Ed Driggers amusingly told city council last month, “There will be no more yard sales. That property has new owners.”
The corner has been a popular site for vendors to hold yard-type sales with used clothing and sundry second-hand items.
The city purchased the property for $29,700 from its owner who resides in California.
“Council has been interested in that site for a number of years,” Driggers said. “There are some improvements we would like to make with way finders signage and we want to increase the radius of that turn.”
The area has been cleaned up in anticipation of the new canopy lighting project that will stretch to the east and west gateways leading into the city. No decision when the million-dollar project will begin.
