Marjorie M. Dowd has been named President/CEO of the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce (GCCC). Dowd has served as the Director of Education and Economic Development at Greenville County Schools since 2010.
Dowd begins her duties March 1. She fills the void left by Mark Owens when he resigned Dec. 1 to become President and CEO of the Winston-Salem (N.C.) Chamber of Commerce.
"I think Greer's success is that it has managed to keep its hometown feel and sense of community all the while supporting a world-class, progressive business base,” Dowd said. “My vision includes highlighting our members' great products and services, increasing collaboration in unique and meaningful ways, and being intentional in our programming efforts. You will want to be a part of what's going on #HereInGreer."
#Here in Greer is a label originated by GreerToday.com to promote its daily news product more than four years ago. The chamber adopted its theme when local business officials were not satisfied with a design company’s offering. A marketing partner/sponsor of GreerToday unexplainably agreed to share the media company’s theme and business concept that was under web development.
“We are excited to welcome Dr. Marjorie Dowd to lead our Chamber. She will bring passion, energy, and an impressive history of cultivating partnerships within our community, state, and region,” said Greer Chamber Chairman Mikelle Porter.
“She values the importance of collaboration that is necessary to support organizational, community, and regional goals.”
Dowd is Director of Education and Economic Development for Greenville County Schools. She has worked with technical college staff, academic institutions, corporations, and nonprofit agencies across South Carolina.
Dowd holds a PhD in educational leadership from Clemson University, a master’s degree in social science from The Citadel, and a bachelor’s degree in public administration from the University of South Carolina.
“Excitement is in the air as the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce embarks on the next chapter of leadership. We are thrilled to have Dr. Marjorie Dowd join us as our Chamber President,” said search committee co-chair Donna Smith.
