The Greater Greer Education Foundation will present its 6th Annual Education Gala on Saturday, Oct. 26, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Cannon Centre, 107 Cannon Street.
All proceeds benefit the Education Foundation and will be given to area schools, students and community projects in the form of grants and scholarships. In the past three years, the Foundation has awarded ?39 scholarships and 36 grants for a total of $57,650.
This year’s Gala will feature beach music by The Swingin’ Medallions, famous for “Double Shot” (of My Baby’s Love). The band began in the 1960s, touring colleges from the Carolinas to the Louisiana Bayou. After a few years of touring, the group went to Arthur Smith’s Studio in Charlotte to record “Double Shot.” The song became a million-seller in 1966, and has been a party classic for college students for decades. “She Drives Me Out of My Mind,” and “Hey, Hey, Baby,” were top 40 hits in 1966 and 1967, but “Double Shot” remains the signature song of the band.
Tickets are $65 per person and are available by contacting the Greer Chamber of Commerce at 864-877-3131 or at 111 Trade Street in Greer. Tickets also may be purchased at the door. Dress for the evening is Spiffy Casual.
A live auction will feature such items as a BMW drive weekend, a set of Michelin tires and several other great items.
The evening will include heavy hors d’oeuvers, wine and desserts.
