Shane Ericks, a student at Greenville Technical College, was selected the $2,500 grand prize winner in the Global Pinoy Singing Idol competition last month in Manila, Philippines.

Ericks performed “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys. The performance earned her opportunities to perform in the United States and abroad.

The contest is open to all Filipino or Filipino-American residents of the U.S. ages 18 and above.

A Wade Hampton High School graduate who plans to earn a bachelor’s degree at Anderson University, Ericks is enrolled in Greenville Technical College’s University Transfer program, taking online classes while she dedicates time to her career.

The Global Pinoy Singing Idol competition is sponsored by ANCOP U.S.A. (Answering the Cry of the Poor), an organization that raises funds for the education of financially disadvantaged youth in the Philippines. Manila partners include ABS-CBN News and DZMM Radio.
