Downtown Greer comes alive Friday and Saturday with non-stop entertainment, more than 100 vendors that are offering a variety of crafts and the annual Anne Helton Creation Station for kids.
The 33rd Annual Pelham Medical Center Family Festival begins 6-10 p.m. Friday with an opportunity to take a couple of laps around downtown before trying to cram in more activities than physically possible between 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. Saturday.
Chase Bryant, a 24-year-old talented singer/songwriter, is the youngest headliner in the Family Fest’s history, and an effort to draw in more of the younger crowd, according to festival chairman Brent Garrett.
Bryant is in between dates on Brad Paisley’s “Life Amplified Tour”, which restarts May 18. Bryant previously toured with Brantley Gilbert, Tim McGraw, Kip Moore in addition to leading his own tour to clubs across the U.S.
He was only the third artist in history to sell out Joe’s Bar in Chicago the first time they appeared at the venue.
The guitar aficionado is left-handed but plays a right-handed guitar flipped upside-down and backwards.
Bryant stormed onto the Country music scene with his Top 10 debut smash “Take It On Back” followed by his recent Top 3 hit “Little Bit of You.” Both songs are co-written and co-produced by Bryant.
The festival, one of two events produced by the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce, is the unofficial start of Greer’s entertainment and arts season.
The Chamber’s website is a virtual entertainment and festival guide dedicated to the Family Fest. Some food vendors will offer fare that coincides with the celebration of Cinco de Mayo Friday.
The advantage of Pelham Medical Center being the title sponsor is its free health screenings, doctors, specialists and medical information that is available.
Downtown merchants and restaurants will also be open during the festival. Merchants are banking on the walking traffic to peruse their inventory heading into Mother’s Day next Sunday.
Tickets for food, beverages and children’s rides can be purchased on site and crafts sales are cash. The event is alcohol-free and pets, coolers, skateboards and bicycles are not allowed in the event site.
The weather forecast Friday is for possible thunderstorms with a high of 58 degrees and lows in the upper 40s. Saturday’s high temperature is likely to hit 70 degrees with late-night lows in the mid-40s. Winds for both days will be around 16 miles per hour from the west and southwest.
